[Gdal-dev] single ECW output from multiple input tiles

Ken,

  I think gdalwarp will do it.  There's a tantalizing bit of doc on the
gdals utilities page:

"Mosaicing into an existing output file is supported if the output file
already exists"

Whether this works with ECW as output is unclear (or what the performance
would be).
