Matthew,

You might want to look in config.log to see if there are clues
to why the test for XTIFFClientOpen failed.  I assume you do
have a recent copy of libgeotiff?

If you have no compelling need to use an external libgeotiff
and libtiff, you can just drop the configure switches for these
and let GDAL use its internal copy.
