[Gdal-dev] core dump

Ok, there seems to be something with make clean, because it didn't work whereas deleting the directory and starting fresh did work, on two separate instances.
 
Anyway, got gdal installed, then tried running gdalinfo.   Regardless of the arguments, it core dumps every time:
 
assertion "codecs == NULL" failed: file "/usr/src/tiff/tiff-3.7.0beta2/libtiff/tif_compress.c", line 258
Aborted (core dumped)

I had installed the latest version of libtiff but it looks like it's using some other version.  Suggestions?
