FYI I have upgraded the ogrsf_frmts/mitab files to MITAB 1.5.1 a few 
minutes ago. This is the last stable release of MITAB. If anyone is 
interested, the revision history of MITAB is at 
http://mitab.maptools.org/HISTORY.TXT

Also, for those interested in the TAB format, a new release of MITAB 
(1.6.0?) should be available soon, and the main feature in this release 
is improved spatial index generation code that produces a proper R-Tree 
and gives search performance comparable to TAB files generated by 
MapInfo. Full details in MITAB bug 1585:

I didn't want to upgrade OGR to that version yet because some more 
testing and a bit of performance tuning when writing files is still 
required, but that should make it in the next release of GDAL. If you 
can't wait then you can always grab the latest MITAB source from CVS: 
same CVS server as GDAL, but checkout project 'mitab'.
