[Gdal-dev] MODIS Equal Area Sinusoidal projection

Hi;

See Tim Beckmann's reply, but also, I think you'd want to subset before reprojecting (or subset during the reprojection), since a MODIS image covers many UTM zones. Also remember the resolution of MODIS images varies greatly as you move away from nadir.

P.S. Don't get me started on the Hugh Dumb Format....

Hi!
The MODIS HDF files for level 4 (and up) products are given using the "Equal Area Sinusoidal Projection". I have tried to select one dataset, and export it to a GeoTIFF file using GDAL, but the projection information does not seem to work.The output GeoTIFF file does have the right metadata, thre resulting raster is not properly reprojected. I have also tried to set the source projection with "+proj=sinu", but this does not seem to produce a good result.

What I want to do is to extract one dataset from a MODIS HDF file, reproject it to UTM and then cut an area of interest. However, without dealing with the projection issue first.

Any pointers would be very appreciated!

Many thanks,
Jose
