[Gdal-dev] MapInfo style string

In the course of my memory leak investigation, I noticed that using a style
string with MapInfo is a very finicky beast. If your string is not formed
correctly, it does not get caught when you set the string, but rather it
crashes later when you create the feature on the layer.
 
Can this be improved to parse the string better or at least return an error
gracefully?
