Hi guys,

I've posted this question in the MapServer list, but I did not get any
reasonable solution, I'd like to post it here again, hope somebody can give
me some clues.

I have a subfolder of GIF raster image, and each GIF file has a
corresponding TAB file, which specifies the coordinate information for the
GIF image, the content of the TAB is something like this:

***
!table
!version 300
!charset WindowsLatin1

Definition Table
  File "m_1_1_1000.gif"
  Type "RASTER"
  (5.290517,48.2308475) (1392,987) Label "Pt 1",
  (5.25001439194036,48.25) (0,0) Label "Pt 2",
  (5.25001439194036 ,48.211695) (0,1974) Label "Pt 3",
  (5.33101960805964,48.25) (2784,0) Label "Pt 4",
  (5.33101960805964,48.211695) (2784,1974) Label "Pt 5"
  CoordSys Earth Projection 1, 104
  Units "degree"
***

but if I perform the gdaltindex command to create a tile shapefile for the
images, an error occurs:

>>no georeferencing info available for the images file, performance will be
skipped.

and I also get some info from the "Raster Data Access" document, "The only
way to georeference GIF files is with a world file. ", is it really so?if
it's true, there will be a huge project for me to change all the TAB files.

hope that someone can help.

thanks so much for any info.

zhonghai
