You are right. I was only looking for a quick substitute to Grass
v.to.rast module, as it is buggy:

I agree that vector to raster conversion is propably not GDAL is
supposed to be designed for, but as there was a chance, I tried it.

I don't want to render my lines shapefile on a display in any fancy way.
I want to properly turn into a raster (grid), at a given resolution, for
further raster analysis within Grass.
