[gdal-dev] gdal install problem

I download the file "gdalwin32-1.4.4" ,Then Unzip it and add the gdalwin32-1.4.4\bin directory to your PATH. Finally,define the GDAL_DATA environment variable to point to gdalwin32-1.4.4\data directory.
My platform is windows. python 2.5 is availabel in my computer.
However it doesn't work. Is there anything esle I should do to make it work properly.
