Ben,

The first paragraph on the GDAL trac/wiki includes likes to search for an
existing userid (if you have one, but aren't sure what the userid was) or
to create an osgeo account.

OSGeo is working towards a single-signon, but has had only partial success.
So the wiki.osgeo.org is actually a completely distinct service living in
Germany and not hooked into our LDAP.  Currently the drupal site at
www.gdal.org, the various subversions hosted at svn.osgeo.org, and the various
trac's hosted at trac.osgeo.org all use a common userid database.
