Ivan,

I've stepped through the OGR code while opening states.shp data from 
ESRI and I confirm that the execution goes through morphFromESRI 
function. However, I'm not sure why ESRI version is printed, I suppose 
your ESRI WKT is passed through morphing but it isn't recognized well.
May be Frank will have more comments.
