[gdal-dev] ArcGIS 10

Hannes,

When I installed ArcGIS Desktop 10 on an XP machine that had no Python
installed on it, the ArcGIS 10 installer created the directory
C:\Python26\ArcGIS10.0. Unlike a normal Python installation, all of the
Python files were under this C:\Python26\ArcGIS10.0 directory, rather than
C:\Python26 as is normally done.

In C:\Python26\ArcGIS10.0\Lib\site-packages there was a numpy subdirectory
(containing numpy 1.3.0) but there was no osgeo directory. The only place I
found evidence of GDAL was C:\Program
Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\bin\gdal16.dll, which is expected as ArcGIS
increasingly uses GDAL for internal operations. As far as I can tell, there
were no GDAL Python bindings installed by ArcGIS. Are you seeing something
different?

Thanks,

Jason

YES, numpy / gdal is under my Python 2.6/AG10site packages,

on the other hand, installing python, numpy, gdal, scipy is rather
straightforward and should be done in less than 10 minutes.. ;-)

The only problem I was running in -> Vista and Win7 maschines need the
newest version of gdal (larger than 1.6) to execute GDAL's readasarray,
while ogr is fine.. .otherwise they just die, while all is fine on XP
and linux. see

If this is true, does that mean that users will not have to install the
various Python library bindings GDAL, numpy, etc. after a full Arc10
install?
