[gdal-dev] Removing usgs quads collars using gdal tools.

Hi,

I am trying to create map tiles from the 'standard' USGS geotiffs using
gdal2tiles.py  e.g. (
http://www.archive.org/download/usgs_drg_ca_37119_g5/o37119g5.tif).

However I am unable to remove the extra border/collar that comes with these
scanned tiff. Does anyone know how can I generate the tiles without the
border(trim the tiffs to neatlines)?

I have tried using gdal_translate but I am not able to remove the border.
Would appreciate any pointer as to how to remove the borders.
