I think it wasn't mentioned which binaries have been used. By reading back
the thread above, it was said an old gdal distribution caused the issue
whereas the daily builds were working:

Daily builds also do autotests including the use of ReadAsArray()
in numpy_rw.py  and it doesn't seem to be failing.
One issue I have in my mind is a crash with the x64 version of Python +
numpy+ GDAL (in autotests) therefore numpy hasn't been added in the x64
builds.

By all means if someone can prepare a ready to use test case to reproduce
this issue, I'll be happy to do a test with that.
