An admirable goal.


Have you given thought as to how you will trace individual edits, and 
reverse them if necessary? 

People will have varying levels of expertise and access to source data of 
varying quality. While I suspect that most will do the right thing, there 
is also the possibility of incompetent edits or even of sabotage.

A concern that I have with this type of process is that, assuming that you 
start with a dataset that has been maintained under controlled QA 
conditions for a number of years and is of known quality: 

- how can you have the same level of confidence in the quality of the 
data, once it has been opened up for external edit? This is particularly 
of concern if the dataset is used for analysis and decision making 
purposes?
