Hi,

(fwd'd idea to the Geodata list)

If the raw dataset is indeed a full 60GB compressed, and if that is too
much for OSGeo's servers to handle, other places that might host are
http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au and http://www.geotorrent.org

[
have a look at http://www.geotorrent.org/browse.php
I see some AU and NZ imagery datasets have already been added there.
nice.

As Brent noted, we can cull down the list of provided data layers to just
the commonly useful ones, thus reducing the size to something more
manageable (~ 2-3gb max so it will fit on a live DVD with room for the OS
+ apps). And it would be nice to provide georeferenced versions of
imagery where the originals are missing that info. (maybe that's
something the community to give back to LINZ as thanks)

Even after the reduction to a manageable size, it would be really nice to
distribute the full raw dataset via geotorrent.org for those of us
interested in obscure things.

another idea is for osgeo's servers to mirror the geotorrent.org trackers
in case geotorrent.org goes away sometime.

3c,
Hamish
