[Ica-osgeo-labs] Open Letter: the need for Open Standards in LiDAR

The most important thing is that we follow the right path and stand firmly to our principles .Opponents might resort to unfair practices but however mighty they might seem, in the end Truth alone will win. I am fully confident on this.

Best wishes,

Suchith

If truth doesn’t win, we’re in deep doo-doo and headed for a fall from grace.

There is a great line in Shakespeare’s Hamlet:

“Foul deeds will rise, though all the earth overwhelm them, to men's eyes.”

Hi Chris, all,

It doesn't matter what all money power or other improper influence is used. In the end, Truth will always win.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Patrick,

Esri is responsible for significant portions of advertising revenue for every GIS and remote sensing magazine. They will not press the letter because they know the consequences.

Cameron,
And if media is ‘deathly’ quiet, we should be guided in how to write ‘letters to the editor’ for each publication, and all of us act on that, so their allegiance and lack of integrity with their community will become a matter of record. It will be interesting to see which publications carry this story and how they carry it (or not). If not, that will be a story for social media an maybe another open letter about media’s silent contract with. . .

Hi Patrick,
I've asked the OSGeo board to officially support this letter. Once board support is provided, and we have collated signatures from all who wish to add their support, then I suggest we approach the media.

This should be ~ mid next week.

Cameron.

Dear OSGeo Community,
Should this also be broadcast in the geospatial newsletters? Like MundoGeo, Sensors and Systems, etc.
I don’t know how to get these online publications to run the story, but we should give them the opportunity.
The subject may not be endearing to corporate sponsors, but it is undoubtedly the right thing to do.
Our ability to communicate freely, data exchange included, seems an essential element to the life.
And why Martin Isenburg has worked so beautifully for so long! The classic David vs Goliath story!
It is now time for us to stand with him and stand strong, decidedly in the interest of all.
