Hi Sanghee,

Many thanks for this excellent idea and i think FOSS4G Seoul Conference will be an excellent opportunity to also celebrate the International Map Year activities.

There are many activities we can think of to build synergies with this

1. Please add the IMY logo and link to the FOSS4G 2015 website http://2015.foss4g.org
2. Please arrange OSGeo Live DVDs to be be given out to all delegates at FOSS4G 2015 and add the logo if IMY in the DVDs
3. We will arrange a presentation for International Map Year at FOSS4G 2015 and i will do my best to get one of the ICA key people to be present for this.
4. Plan to hold a Map competition http://internationalmapyear.org/for-professionals/ at FOSS4G 2015

I am also ccing ICA President Professor Georg Gartner and Bengt Rystedt (Chairperson of the IMY Working Group) who i am sure will be pleased to give their ideas and inputs. Also our Geo for All colleagues (cc in) will be happy to plan ideas for this.

I have fully confident with the FOSS4G momentum at Seoul we will make sure there will be OSGeo labs established at the excellent universities in South Korea soon.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Hello Suchith,

I just feel that we could do something there at FOSS4G Seoul conference. It’s not a concrete idea but just feeling.

As you know International Map Year was discussed at the UN-GGIM and the Head of UN Cartographic Section, Mr. Gyung-Soo Eom will come to Seoul. Mr. Eom has played key role in forming and boosting UN-GGIM. And at the same time, ICA is part of “Geo for All” initiative. So, I just feel that we can do something for IMY. We also expect some delegates from developing or under-developed countries. So I just feel we can draw picture.

It’s just feeling.

Do you have any idea on this?

Anyway happy new year and hope to see you in Seoul.

With regards,

Sanghee

P.s.) It’s somewhat embarrassing that there is no OSGeo Lab in South Korea. Please come to Korea and promote that!!

The most important legacies will be a new generation of cartographers and geographic information scientists, as well as an exceptional level of interest and participation from professionals, schoolchildren, the general public, and decision-makers, worldwide.
