[Ica-osgeo-labs] GeoForAll Como meetings & Grant Sprint

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for this. Your planned NSF proposal will be great start to get colleagues together to discuss ideas/synergies for other bids and collaborations.

All - i suggest that we all make use of the principles and ideas from http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/GeoForAll_UrbanScience_CityAnalytics to any bids that you are part of. For example, i have been invited to join another H2020 consortium bid and i am doing my best to promote NASA World Wind as the platform for this (instead of using a proprietary platform). As we are not leading the consortium , i have limitations but i am hopeful that all consortium members will see the benefits.

So the main message is please feel free to make use of the ideas and fundamental principles for any bids that you are part of and it doesnt matter which universities win the bids, the important thing is Open Principles win as then everyone benefits.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Subject: [Ica-osgeo-labs] GeoForAll Como meeting signup confusion

OK, I've added links to the BOF signup on the GeoForAll meeting Agenda page [1], and added the second BOF meeting time and place there. GeoForAll colleagues who will be in Como:

Please add your name to the various GeoForAll meetings you will be attending using wiki page [1] as a starting point. Feel free to add other discussion topics to the bottom of that page and I'll try and manage/organize them.

Sorry for the confusion -- and thanks for your leadership, Jeff!

Charlie

Hi everyone,

I am not sure what is going on. I'll summarize the confusion here:

- each year at FOSS4G, a BOF wiki page is set up (one page so all attendees can goto one page and see all of the BOFs at the event)
- i took the time to ask Maria for all of the available rooms for BOFs, which she replied, and then I created a BOF page for the FOSS4G-Como event
- I added a GeoForAll BOF at http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_Europe_2015_BirdsOfAFeather#GeoForAll_BOF
- now this morning I learn there is a separate wiki :(

Anyway, maybe you can edit the wiki and remove my meeting time, and point to your new wiki page, but make sure that people heading to the main BOF page can find all of your GeoForAll meetings. That is the key point.

The point again (sorry to summarize): 1 wiki page listing all BOF rooms available, and listing all BOF meetings (that wiki page can definitely point to other wikis, in the GeoForAll case)

Ha, I didn't see the confusion coming this time, sorry.

Hi GeoForAll community:

As suggested, I've taken the times and agendas that were shared via
email for various GeoForAll meetings during FOSS4G EU Como and created a
new wiki page. See:

1) We already had a BOF meeting scheduled for Friday, but I added Jeff's
Thursday AM time given I'm sure we could use it.

2) To make it simpler, I decided to add a place under each meeting for
people to sign up so we know who to expect.
For those who will be in Como, please add your name to the list for each
of the meetings if you think you can make it.

3) Also, if there are topics missing that you think should be discussed,
add it to the 'TOPICS NOT CURRENTLY ON THE AGENDA...' section at the
bottom and we'll figure out where to put it.

4) Finally, as Lene suggested, should we could plan a pre conference web
meeting in July on one or more of these topics? Reactions folks?

Thanks all,

Charlie Schweik

    Hi All :-)

We have so limited time in Como - so I suggest that we set up an
Agenda for each meeting - and prepare or even discuss online before
    we meet.

I would like to meet and talk about:
1: Platforms for sharing curriculum. Ex: GeoAcademys courses on a
platform where you as a lecturer can Drag´n Drop lectures an then
present a course. Does anyone know such a platform?
2: QGIS: Start a cooperation where we start groups - each having
responsebilities for creating new lectures/cases, updating ect.

If we have spesific agenda for each meeting we can actually come
further than just start up :-)

    Yes, it's true.

Charlie and Suchith organized the GeoForAll meetings and I already
booked rooms for them (you find mails in the mailing list) I
believed Jeff wanted to add more meetings. Please at this point clarify.

On the opposite Anne Ghisla and I (as chairs) proposed the
GeoForAll Europe, and I confirm that this one is Thursday July
    16th, 5:30 in room 3.5.

    Many thanks. Best.

Oggetto: Re: [Ica-osgeo-labs] Meeting at FOSS4G-Como

Hmm, earlier someone (I think Suchith Anand) also sent info on BoFs (see
below) how does that relate to your suggestion?

    "1) Tuesday July 14th, 8:30-11:30 am - GeoForAll pre-conference meeting.
hall of Via Natta building. Topics:

1a. Certification: Phil Davis has agreed to give us an update on
where we are on the certification discussion and lead further
discussion on that topic. (Thanks Phil) 1b. Educational content
curation strategies 1c. GeoForAll and its connection to firms.

That's probably enough -- but if anyone has any other pressing
issues while some of us are together let me know.

    2) Thursday July 16th, 5:30 room 3.5 at Politecnico di Milano --
    GeoForAll Europe meeting.
(This is a good idea... any other regions have a group attending and
    want to meet up?)

    3) Friday July 17th, 12:00-13:00 room 3.6 -- GeoForAll Bird's of a
    Feather

Open session to plan our collective activities after reflecting on
    the conference experiences

    4) Saturday July 18th - 8:30-11:30 hall of Via Natta building --
    GeoForAll 'Grant Sprint'

    - Some focus on the US SmartCity grant proposal, hopefully at least
    another one focused on Europe.
    - If anyone is thinking about responding to a call to support our
group and will be there, let me (Charlie) know.
