Great ideas everyone. It is really exciting for me to keep updated on all these amazing stuff that you all are doing :-)

Patrick- Thanks for bringing the NASA Europa Challenge ideas at http://eurochallenge.como.polimi.it/projects2015 This again fits in nicely also with the Open Standards education theme.

By combining the potential of Free and Open Source software, Open Standards, Open Data, Open Education Resources, you all have made "Geo for All" the PLATFORM for offering education opportunities to nurture and develop Open Minds in students globally for a better planet and better future for all…

Best wishes,

Suchith

GeoAcademy is phenomenally awesome!!!

We need our kids (and young adults) GIS equipped,
especially since this world we are handing them
desperately needs more of that kind of understanding.

Next year’s Europa Challenge will have a special category for High School students.
We actually have our first High School team already a candidate.
Check out the Alaska challenger. These kids are from Kodiak Island,
a very remote part of Alaska and yet they are doing world-class work!

I would like to put in a plug for the GeoAcademy courses. It a word they are “Awesome”

Kurt, John, Rick, Phil and the rest have done an amazing job. The courses include clear and concise information on GIS Fundamentals and QGIS techniques.

Kurt – please sign me up for your Community Health course.

Hello Luis,
Certainly. I’ll have to put the GIS 2020 – Introduction to Open Source GIS and Web Mapping course online somewhere and then I’ll send you the link. There is some material on OGC standards for this course. This has only been offered as a face to face course and has never been put online.

The other courses I’ve written (along with Dr. Rick Smith) are available from the GeoAcademy site. https://foss4geo.wordpress.com/ and on GitHub https://github.com/FOSS4GAcademy
These 5 courses are currently being updated for QGIS 2.8.1. The updates will be completed by mid-summer.

I am also nearing completion of a topical GeoAcademy companion course with a focus on using FOSS4G for public health. The course will be called Community Health Mapping and is part of an initiative funded by the US National Library of Medicine. The blog I author for this project is here: http://communityhealthmaps.nlm.nih.gov/
The course material will be available from this site and the GeoAcademy site by early summer.

Kurt
