Hi Praveen Kalura,

Thank you for your email and introduction. It is good to know about your work. Your training programs for students is very impressive. Thanks for sharing this as I was not aware of this open source GIS training opportunities happening in India. May I request you to please share your work info with OSGeo India colleagues mailing list [1] as they will be better positioned to provide the right advice for you. Looking at your website and the training summary you emailed , I can get a sense of the huge efforts you have put in. I really hope things work out for you and you will find new projects/ideas soon . I do not have any expertise or knowledge in business but I can share some experiences based on my life experiences which might be useful.

When I was an undergraduate student in Civil Engineering In India (over two decades back), my dream that time was to get opportunity to do my final year undergraduate project using GIS. I still remember the struggles I faced to just get access to learning GIS as very few universities had GIS that time in India. I spend nearly two years going around different universities and places knocking so many doors to just to get access to GIS . Unfortunately in spite of all my best efforts I failed that time....

I was disappointed but I carried on working with hope and faith. I did my final year undergraduate project in design of buildings! (structural engineering ). Still I kept looking for opportunities to get access to GIS. Years later (after I finished my undergraduate degree), I finally got opportunity to learn GIS through another project and my search for learning GIS lead me to so many new opportunities . As some wise people said, Fail stands for First Attempt In Learning. So when I think back, even though my efforts to get access to GIS in my undergraduate years failed, I learned lot of things from those experiences. In fact, if I had not gone though those experiences , I might not have got the determination to do everything in my abilities to keep the doors of GIS education open to all so that no student anywhere should go through what I went through.

I never planned for anything in my life. I just kept on doing my work and duties with faith and hope. Even now, I do not have any idea of my future. After leaving University of Nottingham, I am now working as an independent consultant for GODAN and other international organisations.

So from my small experiences, I request you to keep faith, hope and keep on working. Please reach out to OSGeo India colleagues , universities and other organisations in India showing your track record and experiences and ask for advise and new ideas for you to help expand your training programs etc.

I wish you the very best for the future.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Dear all,

My Name is Praveen Kalura. I am From India and Pursued my masters in Remote Sensing and GIS. Last year I started a GIS training firm (www.prithvigeospatial.com<http://www.prithvigeospatial.com>). I conducted two Workshop for university students on open-source geospatial tools. and the response of both the workshop was amazing. But recently we are facing problem regarding funding to keep this firm running, due to which we are thinking of winding it up. which is a very hard decision for me. so I want guidance from this community how can I generate fund to keep this initiative running.
