Asunto: [Geo4All] Earthdata Webinar

Dear colleagues,

I would like to share this webinar announcement which might be of
interest of some. Details below.

best regards

=============================================
“IceFlow and icepyx: Python tools for Harmonizing Laser Altimetry
Datasets in an Open Science Framework” Earthdata webinar to be held on
Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM EDT (UTC/GMT-4).

Brief Description: Since 2003, NASA’s ICESat, IceBridge, and ICESat-2
missions have collected valuable information on the evolution of land
and sea ice using laser altimetry technology. However, combining these
disparate and large-volume data products, available from the NASA
National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center
(NSIDC DAAC), presents a challenge in terms of varied data formats,
coordinate reference systems, spatial coverage, and discovery and
access methods. Join us to learn how to harmonize IceBridge, ICESat-1,
and ICESat-2 data products into similar formats and apply the
necessary geophysical corrections for users to immediately access,
compare, and visualize data using Python and Jupyter Notebook based
tools.

Speaker: Amy Steiker, DAAC Data Services Engineer, NASA National Snow
and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC)

Amy specializes in the development and management of data education
resources, tools, and services for NSIDC DAAC’s growing user
community, as well as cloud-based data transformation service
development for NASA Earth Obsering System Data and Information System
(EOSDIS). With a background in stable isotope biogeochemistry and
NSIDC user support, Amy continues to pursue efforts improving the
accessibility and utility of NSIDC DAAC’s data from a data user’s
perspective, growing her focus and expertise on cloud computing
resources for cloud-based data access and analysis.

Speaker: Nicholas Kotlinski, Data Support Specialist, NASA NSIDC DAAC

Nic is the Data Support Specialist for NASA's Ice, Cloud and land
Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) at the NSIDC DAAC. He has a
background in using GIS and remote sensing for tropical forest
conservation, and has worked on research teams studying a variety of
issues, from biological and social inventories in South America to
large-scale studies of freshwater systems in the U.S., Mongolia and
Guyana. With a history of supporting science teams in geospatial
research, Nic is interested in supporting ICESat-2 data users and
promoting the accessibility and usability of NSIDC DAAC data for a
range of applications.

Speaker: Dr. Jessica Scheick, Research Assistant Professor at the
University of New Hampshire Earth Systems Research Center

Dr. Jessica Scheick is a glaciologist, open-source software developer,
remote sensor, and lifelong lover of snow, winter, and the outdoors.
With a background in glaciology, remote sensing, and climate science,
she is currently a Research Associate Professor at the University of
New Hampshire, where she works on glaciological research,
research-enabling open-source software projects, and climate justice
and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. She is the lead
developer and maintainer for the icepyx library and regularly helps
run Hackweeks with the University of Washington's eScience Institute.
