The event<https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/education/events/2023-24/ethics.aspx>, ‘The Ethics of AI and Data in Higher Education’, took place on 10 November 2023 and was hosted by the Association of African Universities (AAU<https://aau.org/>), the University of Nottingham and the Ethical Data Initiative (EDI<https://ethicaldatainitiative.org/>). It was held as part of celebrations to mark Africa Universities’ Day and the AAU’s 56th anniversary - Focusing on Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education.

The three organisations have begun the Campaign for Data Ethics in Education<https://ethicaldatainitiative.org/campaign-for-data-ethics-in-education/>, to advocate for the inclusion of data ethics in all data science and research-based higher education courses, to train the next generation of data and research professionals about their legal and ethical responsibilities surrounding the use, reuse and sharing of data.
