It is a theory that suggests that the idea of 'patent thickets' (lots of patents) leads to people NOT innovating or building on advances because of all the legal issues they have to deal with to work with a technology. </div><div><br></div><div>That idea might be useful. Universities are trying to capitalize on patents for income (understandable, I guess) but that might lead to more patent thickets.
