– has operated in an “open” way for centuries through the long-standing scientific norms of peer-review and publication. But a new generation of Open Geographical Science is now possible, bolstered by five key developments: (1) Internet access in much of the
world; (2) establishment of open geospatial data and interoperability standards (OGC, 2015a); (3) availability of open licenses for data and other scientific products (Neylon, 2014); (4) ability to share intermediate research products through open access licensing,
and encourage new derivative work through appropriate licensing; and principally, (5) establishment of commons-based peer production approaches and systems that encourages co-production and collective-action between scientists and scientific organizations
(Benkler, 2005; 2013; Schweik, et al., 2011). </span><br>

Reason #5: In scientific researches black boxes (commercial software) are not so useful. One have to know all the details of the used algorithms (source code) to make the right conclusions, change an algoritm (source code) to get new experiences. it can be
done only with open source software.<br>

Universities and Geo4All labs are research centers, too.<br>
