You might try changing the png bit from 8 to 24 to 32. IE might handle the alpha transparency in each of those with varying results.

Another trick might be to set the transparency of the layer...see links below. Not sure how those solutions translate to Geomoose configuration settings.

This is an issue with the IE web browser. As you pointed out, the image is rendered correctly from your mapserver and can be viewed correctly using other browsers and image viewers, even IE as long as the image is by itself (alpha transparency is not involved).

I have IE v8 here.

Subject: [Geomoose-users] Poor quality WMS display in IE

I'm using a WMS service of our base data in a GeoMoose application. The WMS is at MapServer 6.0.1 with a PNG output type. My GeoMoose installation is the Oregon variant 2.2 (MapServer 5.6?).

This service looks poor in the application when in Internet Explorer (version 8), but looks great in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. The WMS also looks fine in ArcGIS, and also in IE with a simple WMS GetMap request.

Right now, the WMS service and my app are on our test server, which you should be able to look at. I will give you the caveat that the application is still being built and many controls are not yet working, but if anyone wants to take a look, here are the URLs:

WMS Service:
http://mapservertest.maine.gov/wms/mapserv.exe?map=c:/wms/basemapNew.map&SERVICE=WMS& -WMS version 1.1.1

Here is the URL for the simple WMS request I tried, and looks OK in IE:
http://mapservertest.maine.gov/wms/mapserv.exe?map=c:/wms/basemapNew.map&SERVICE=wms&version=1.1.1&request=GetMap&layers=towns24_poly,Roads,Hydrography&BBOX=437700,4907800,439030,4909100&SRS=EPSG:26919&FORMAT=image/png&width=800&height=600

GeoMoose Application:
http://mapservergeotest.maine.gov/broadband/index.html#<http://mapservergeotest.maine.gov/broadband/index.html> -Zoom in on a town and you will see poor graphic quality in IE, but looks good in other browsers.

But what could be causing the poor display only with IE? Could it be OpenLayers causing the problem? Other ideas? Has anyone else had this experience? Is there some setting on IE that I need to adjust?

Thanks,
Bob
