I'm not completely adept at this so some of my notes may seem on the more basic side of things, but I think they bear out the need to further explain things in the Linux (Ubuntu section of the) installation Doc's.</font> </div>

<font face="Comic Sans MS" size="3">The demo code installed very nicely all in all. The GeoMoose interface popped up the first time after following the instructions. The biggest problem, was I ran into some dependency problems with GDAL and the new version of MapServer 6.x, which is required by GM2.6. Jim helped me with the dependency problems , but this needs to be noted someplace in the release notes, as everyone doesn't have as easy access to Jim as I do. :c) It seems that the Version of GDAL required by Mapserver 6.x is too new for a complied version to exist for Ubuntu 11.10, I was trying with the STABLE releases and Jim tells me the unstable was needed in order to build things as required by GM2.6.</font> </div>

I used a nightly, should add in a item about adding in a LINK to the <font face="Comic Sans MS" size="3">geomoose-</font><font face="Comic Sans MS">nightly folder that was created from the install or changing the name. Yes I know, this is not the normal procedure and the in-the-know folks will know what to do, but coming from the know-nothings (or the know-littles (like me) this would have helped.</font> </li>

NOTE: I needed to add my custom Projection instead of using a projection block in theMapfile. I couldn't get MapServer to work the projection no matter what I did, may be related to the data source being POSTGIS.<font face="Comic Sans MS" size="3"> So, it seems with the WMS only appraoch, that the Projections must exist in the local PROJ.4 (epsg) file listing before the WMS calls work correctly. Iwas trying to add some PostGIS layers to the interface, but the WMS calls seemed to ignore anything I put into the SQL call about SRID until I had the projection added to the local EPSG file list. A straight mapserver call worked just fine by changing the SRID in the SQL call to POSTGIS, but the WMS call required I have the code in the local EPSG file. I'll admit, that I probably didn't have something set up someplace that was required, but once I added the EPSG code to MapServer's )PROJ.4:EPSG)
list all was well.</font> </li>

Ok, It's been a while since I configured GeoMoose, but the Folder(src) and Mapfile(layername) combination stuff is something to make note of.<font face="Comic Sans MS" size="3"> This one was a little alien to me, fist time I've had to set up the SRC and LAYER naming sections (the new way of GeoMoose configuration) on my own. The whole folder/layer naming combinations stuff, defintely needs to be written down somewhere in the installation dos. It took me a while to figure out I needed a separate folder/layer naming combination to make things unique in the catalog. I was originally trying to add layers from the same folder, and using the mentality that that first part of the A/B description was the folder location, then the next part would be the file name, but it ended up the second part was the LAYER name in the WMS block, not the file name. Anyway, I went round and round on this for a
while until I stumbled on the right combination of things.So, I can add these notes as appropriate to the LINUX install page, any problems with that from anyone?
