When testing/starting with 2.6 I found it best to add a layer or two of my own to the demo. Then add an extent for your data set in the zoomto section of the mapbook.xml file. That way you can bring up the demo and zoom to your area to see how your stuff looks. Many of the background layers are world-wide so you can also see other layers (yahoo, google, etc.) as well. That way your not taking too much on right away. <div>
