Copying the right developers list.

You just need to do:

sudo chown $user -R /geonode

And things should work.

Since you want to develop, it is best to stay away from packages, those are
usually good for people who want to set up a GeoNode but do not have a lot
of software development experience. Most developers here have their own
scripts (fabric, ansible, docker) to maintain geonode installations.
