[GeoNode-devel] Communication between GeoServer and GeoNode fails

Hi there,

Trying to change a layer's style in GeoNode leads to an error message "Error saving style" and the style is never changed. Checking the GeoServer logs shows the issue as follows:

WARN [geonode.security] - Error connecting to the GeoNode server for authentication purposes
org.springframework.security.authentication.AuthenticationServiceException: Communication with GeoNode failed (UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken)
at org.geonode.security.GeoNodeAuthenticationProvider.authenticate(GeoNodeAuthenticationProvider.java:62)
at org.geoserver.security.GeoServerAuthenticationProvider.authenticate(GeoServerAuthenticationProvider.java:58)
…
…

The error occurs on Ubuntu 14.04 with GeoNode 2.4 and GeoServer 2.7.4./2.9.1. The full error log is attached to this email.
