The focus is more about long-term stability and robustness then
performance, basically it's about allowing performance improvements
to be introduced w/out breaking exposed interfaces.

And, of course, we got in sync with JTS-1.7, which introduced some
performance improvements by design.
Actual results are closer to "good" then "bad", see
the NEWS file for details.
