geographically distributed GIS for parallelization

I am presently working on the LUCAS project (referenced in the GRASS home
page),
and I will be creating a parallelized version using PVM where I will distribute
pieces of layered maps to the various nodes in the parallel machine.  I have
managed to cut up the maps and maneuver them to where I want them, but it isn't
pretty.  I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with geographically
distributing GRASS across processors for parallel computations.  If you have
