I missed the first part of this thread, but next_att is OK.  When a string is
found, cleanse_string should advance the pointer pass any double quotes.
@"substringA substringB"  works for me.  "substringA substringB" works too.

If it's not working for you, look at cleanse_string, expecially the typecast
(char) NULL - that probably isn't very portable.
