That is what we plan to do.
But we need people maintaining it.
Otherwise focus will shift on things active developers are
interested it. :)

I completely agree with Markus here
there has been a lot talk about 5.1 and its feature set.
Also there are many people not following GRASS development intensively.
If we release something that is called 5.1.x which does not have
the features as expected, this is a problem.

It is easer to explain why that numbering scheme changed.
