[GRASS5] howto: png to DEM?

Hi, hopefully a easy one: 

How to transform a png-image with often interrupted contour lines into 
elevation data? 

Attached please find a small tile to show data quality. The original image 
size is 4300x2800 pixel and transforms into more than 5600 vector snippets.
