[GRASS5] [bug #4085] (grass) Error in startup script for Grass 6.1cvs Feb.11th Generic Linux binary

Subject: Error in startup script for Grass 6.1cvs Feb.11th Generic Linux binary 

Platform: GNU/Linux/x86
grass obtained from: Trento Italy site
grass binary for platform: Downloaded precompiled Binaries
GRASS Version: 6.1 cvs Generic Linux binary 2006-02-11

I downloaded the 2006-02-11 generic binary snapshot into /usr/local/. Extracted the tar package using the shell script, install went fine. Typed 'grass61' on command line, selected Location and Mapset, and received the following message:

GRASS 6.1.cvs (Miramichi):/usr/local > Error in startup script: couldn't open "/usr/local/grass6.1.cvs-i686-pc-linux-gnu-11_02_2006/etc/monitorcap": no such file or directory
    while executing
"open [file join $env(GISBASE) etc monitorcap] r"
    (procedure "read_moncap" line 4)
    invoked from within
"read_moncap"
    (file "/usr/local/grass6.1.cvs-i686-pc-linux-gnu-11_02_2006/etc/dm/d.m.tcl" line 255)

Multiple attempts at re-installing Grass 6.1 with the same package produced this error.
