Suggestion: Splash #1 with an historical (world) map in the background
(with, say, 90% transparency) would be perfect.

IMHO we should show a map in the splash or welcome screen to
immediately drive the user into the geospatial context.
The last QGIS splash screens were all very nice in this regard,
