missing volumes in NVIZ

I’m trying to create a volume using r.to.rast3 and display it in NVIZ. I’ve got 6 versions of a 600x500 map at 90m resolution. The 6 versions are from 9000, 9200, 9400, 9600, 9800, and 10000 years ago. So I’ve tried the following settings using g.region.

bottom=0
top=6
resolution=1

bottom=0
top=600
resolution=100

bottom=9000
top=10200
resolution=200

All of these give me 6 depths that make sense, given the resolution settings, in r3.info after running r.to.rast3.

The values range from –2000 to 2000 roughly, but most are in the 0-500 range. So I’ve picked isosurfaces of 10, 50, 100, 400, 1000, and even 9500. None show up. I see the volume “box” as a flat rectangle (i.e., no vertical depth), but nothing in it.

Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong here? I’ve done this before and it seemed to work with no problems.
