<p>the r.pi.grow is mainly just a helper function to define
connected patches. It is not meant to be executed independently.<br>

<p>All pixel that are connected (either 4 or 8 cell neighborhoods)
are defined as one patch (with unique ID) and used in subsequent
functions like r.pi.index, r.pi.odc etc.</p>
