Vectors areas to cell groups?

As long as the polygons in your vector map are area edges and the areas
are labeled, v.to.rast will create a raster map which contains solid
polygons (ie. all of the cells on the inside will be filled in with the
category value that they were originally labeled in the vector format).

If the vector polygons are lines, as opposed to area edges, only the border
pixels which define the area of your polygon will receive the category
value in the vector map. The interior will not be filled
in (ie. interior pixels will be category zero).

The resolution of your output will be whatever your current resolution is
when you execute v.to.rast.
