What about Kermit? If you can get a serial line between the two machines, kermit 
should give you reasonable file transfer capabilities. Kermit is public domain, 
and widely available - in the UK gopher from micros.hensa.ac.uk will work. 
Kermit is available for most platforms, and is such a mature piece of software 
that I would be surprised if it was difficult to put it on yout Unix machine.
