World Projection Peace

I'd like to back-up Rick's sentiments. Jerry "Dr Projection" Evenden has
been a tower of strength in his chosen niche and has served the GRASS
community excellently, largely voluntarily. He has an interesting
turn-of-phrase, certainly, and is inclined towards pedantry (it probably
comes with the territory), but it is not too hard to apply an
Evenden-filter and so still get the benefit of what he offers.

On a technical note: Of course, how seriously you need to take all the
recent stuff depends very much on what scale your project is at ... If
you can tolerate a precision of only a few tens or hundreds of metres, then
very often the differences introduced through varying the ellipsoid will
not be important. Your call.

(I'm sure you'll have a comment here Jerry ...)

>I think I see the first of what I hope is the last Projection humor or
>criticism volleyball. Understanding the ins and outs of projections,
>ellipsoids,
>et.al is indispensible to all. When I have needed accurate info concerning
>projections, I have been glad to call on Jerry's knowledge and experience.
