HELP: Resolution Problem

We are at Rutgers University and using Grass4.1. We are currently
working with satellite and microwave data sets in differeing
resolutions. We have found that when converting vector to raster
files using GRASS a centerpoint algorithm is used. This is also the
case when changing from 1 resolution to another, i.e. going from a
.1X.1 degree cell to a 1X1 degree cell. This is OK but is not ideal.
A better way to do this with our data would be to convert using a % of
area algorithm. Some of our data is snow depth, so a center-point
based algorithm will not average our data going from one resolution to
another.. Is there any averaging algorithm available to us through
GRASS? Weird things happen when we try to use the surface generation
algorithms. Perhaps we are missing something. If anyone out there
can help us, we would appreciate it. Thanks.
