grass elevation file

Help! We are in need of an elevation file.  Our current elevation file
has been reclassed such that all elevations greater than 1000m are in
the same category.  Where can we find an elevation file with either
raw elevations or more distinct categories for the higher elevations?

While we have you, where can we find a vector file for the world
political boundaries and U.S. state boundaries?
