set scale in p.map

        I use p.select and p.map to convert some raster and vector
maps into .ppm format.  I would like to produce smaller maps, but the
'scale' parameter just doesn't work!  Could anyone give me a hint how
to scale down an output map with p.map command?   Thanks in advance!
