g.setproj error

>From a friend who is trying GRASS .....

I get the following error when running GRASS4.1 for SGI (OS v5.2) - I'm
starting GRASS for first time:

Segmentation fault....

proj info file not created
 you must run g.setproj successfully before creating......




Any suggestions for fixing this???
