Hi Karine,

not really a solution but a work-around.

Use XV or something similiar (GIMP may work to) to convert your gif and tif and ppm files to sun-raster-files.
The import-module "r.in.sunrast" works quite good in my opinion.

Hope that helps.

Peter

Betreff:	Can't import gif nor tif no ppm files correctly

Hy everybody!

I just can't properly import any raster file. 2 reasons.

Gif and PPM:
I have tried with Interlaced and non-interlaced 87a gif files and PPM binary
files (both transformed from jpg in Paint Shop Pro and Lview under Windows
95). I get no error message whatsoever (with PPM it tells me I got 255 or so
colors or something of the kind), but then it only displays in 1 bit, and
when running r.support it gives me the number of cols and rows and
indicates 1 bit!

What can I do to get those 24 or at least 8 bit!

I tried giving him on the bit chosing line, but it tells me it then doesn't
round up with the file size. I tried computing with the rows and cols, but
it turned out impossible!

Is it again a Xwindow definition? Or is it because the file's to big?
Did I miss a step in the procedure?

Anyone could give me a help, I'd be very thankfull.

Kindly
Karine

PS: Markus: the updating, it works real nice and smooth and nicely small to
download. Great job!
