Lars et al.,

Thanks for the reference. A nice data set. Having some trouble with
v.support in creating the vector map layers, but according to the archived
emails this (trouble getting the dig_cats integrated) is not unusual.

Judging from the pixel values in veg.prod, it is probably (but not certainly)
the Olson carbon data. It would be nice to have some source references
included on

	http://www.geog.uni-hannover.de/grass/data.html

FYI several of the components of the nice sampler, global_grassdata.tar.gz
are not actually viewable. I should say, they are not immediately viewable
by me. The 'eco' and 'soil.*' data sets don't appear for me, but give messages
like

GRASS:~/grass > d.rast eco
WARNING: can't read range file for [eco in PERMANENT]
WARNING: color support for [eco] in mapset [PERMANENT] missing
Color file for [eco] not availableGRASS:~/grass >

and similar. As a set of "test" data for newbies like me to play around with,
it might be handy to have a small amount of documentation associated.

Of course, we are talking about free data here, so I should not perhaps be
too picky. :^)

Thanks.

Sounds as if you may have the "Major World Ecosystem Complexes Ranked by Carbon in Live Vegetation: A Database", authored by J. S. Olson, J. A. Watts, and L. J. Allison.

See the doc page at:

I've got this very nice "standard" data set, yet can find no references for
it, description of what the pixels are, and so on. It looks like a map of
vegetative productivity, or production of CO2, but these are just guesses.

What is it?

Thanks for your time.

Adios,
Chris
