[GRASSLIST:4268] Draping vectors on raster maps

Hi all
 
I have a vector (a route travelled by a car) which I would like to
"drape" over a raster map of the area.
Would this operation change the vector's z co-ordinates (altitude) to
the raster map's (at each point).
Would I have to use something like v.to.rast?
