 Hi Daniel,

 that depends on your application:

 1) If you only want to do some eshetic
 manipulation enhancement with your image
 material -> got to image contrast enhancement
 operations.

 2) If you want to do some scientific operations
 you eventually will have to applicate some atmospheric and
 radiometric corrections on your NOAA-AVHRR images.
 There are many free radiative transfer codes available.

 In case 2, recontact me. I'll give you some more hints and
 links to such correction algorithms.
